      I don’t have specific exercises to share as it’s been so long for me and I’m not a medical professional. Seeing a physical therapist who specializes in Diastasis is the best option- even if you can only go once or twice to get exercises you can work through in your own. I understand this isn’t an option for everyone though. A couple resources that I’ve found sense that could be helpful are MUTU system and MommaStrong. Both of these programs are led by Physical Therapists who specialize in postpartum and pelvic floor physical therapy and address Diastasis in their programs.

    I see that you read to your kids individually. I feel like I should start doing that with my almost 13. Can you describe what a typical day of reading looks like in your family? I also want to start implementing morning time where I will read aloud from our guest hollow geography curriculum. I’m currently just reading aloud at night to my two youngest with my oldest often joining.

    • @TicketToLearning
      @TicketToLearning 3 месяца назад

      It has evolved quite a bit over the years, but currently these are the reading times I have with my kids: Sometimes I start off by reading with my littlest (if she’s really into her play we will save that for later in the day). Then we have our unit study. That’s where I do a family read-aloud. After lunch and some time outside, I read with my middle child, then my oldest. If I haven’t read with my littlest yet, I do that next. We also will read history or science together. I let the boys take turns reading with expression. The key is to be interesting and clear enough for everyone to follow along. It’s actually fun and a great way for me to keep a pulse on their fluency with harder words as the curriculum progresses. That’s all of the reading I do with them. They sometimes have assigned reading and they always have 30 minutes of free reading every day. I hope that’s helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy reading! 📖 📚 😃

The book is targeted for ages 8-12, but can be stretched a bit on either side. I’m currently doing this unit with my kids ages 6-13. The kit is $75 plus shipping. We only ended up using it for a few of the literature selections. The writing actually was ok for us. I don’t mind highly modifying and tailoring writing assignments. I know I’m a minority, but it was my favorite part. Many of the books just weren’t working well for us. The main struggles for us were the very wordy instructions and lessons and there wasn’t enough time on one topic for my son to really grasp it. I could see how it would be a good fit for a lot of kids - especially those who pick things up easily by reading instructions, it just wasn’t a great fit for us.

    I used Math on the Level for my daughter in middle school - it was one of the only things that really worked well for us. Last year was her 9th grade year and we moved into Dennison Algebra . . . It was a dream! The best we could have asked for. She is finishing it up this week and is so proud to have an A. Mr Dennison knows what he's doing!

      That’s so good to know! We’re ready to jump into Dennison, but if we start before July we can’t count it as high school credit so we’re just practicing until then. I think it’s going to be a good fit. I also thing math on the level is a hidden gem in the homeschooling world. ❤️

    Have you read “Jim the Boy” by Tony Earley? There are two books with the same title, so you want to make sure it’s the one by Earley. It’s set in the same place and time as “Light Comes to Shadow Mountain,” and there’s a beautiful/haunting scene when the power comes on for the first time. It’s a really good book! I’m sure you don’t want to add another piece to your unit study 🤣🤣🤣 but you might enjoy reading the book just on your own while you’re immersed in this world. There’s also a wonderful album of bluegrass ballads by Paul Burch called “Last of My Kind” that was inspired by Earley’s book. Cheers!

    Thank you so much, Laura. It’s so hard to not want/expect to do a pre-made unit in its entirety. So helpful to hear even you, the creator, say you are picking and choosing what works best for your kids. And I love the goal setting at the beginning. Really smart to help you stay focused as you curate what’s feasible to do out of the unit. You demonstrated how to break a unit down into an organized, manageable amount! Thanks for taking us along.

    Hi, Laura! I recently found you through Arlene! Wondering if you have ever shared your kids’ daily checklists? Would love to know more about how you set them up. Thanks for sharing so much inspiring content!

      Welcome to the channel! I was thinking I shared our checklists at one point but I looked through my videos and I’m not seeing them. Maybe I can share them in an upcoming video. They change a lot and they’re actually different for each of my kids to suit there needs. Are there any specific questions I can answer to make that video most helpful?

      Hello’ I was wondering if you type them up or write them in a notebook? How far in advance do you create them? Do they include only school or chores too? What if something doesn’t get done? Do you move it to the next day? Do they include independent work, loop items, family subjects, table time with you? Thank you!

    Glad to hear about the Timberdoodle Aviation Course. My daughter is probably going to do it this year.

    We have been using Explode the Code alongside All About Reading Level One. Some of their exercises are spelling-based, and my kiddo seems to decode better when she knows how these three-letter CVC words are spelled. I considered adding All About Spelling into the mix before we finish Level One, just waiting to get into a few more lessons before I set something in stone.

      Explode the Code is a great supplement to All About Reading. There is SO much research to support spelling and writing along with learning to read. I’m glad that set up is working well for you. If Explode the Code is working well, I say keep it up.

      @@TicketToLearning We've reached a pause in Explode the Code where a new vowel is introduced, but we're still learning CVS words with the 'a' vowel in AAR. I'd love to see how you're aligning AAR and AAS.

      @@astoldbydeedra that makes a lot of sense. It’s why I went with AAS instead of explode the code. This is the correlation I put together: The beginning is a bit messy, the first few AAS lessons can really be used with AAR 1 at any point. AAR 8 --> AAS 8 AAR 10 --> AAS 9 AAR 12 --> AAS 10 AAR 14 --> AAS 11 AAR 16 --> AAS 12 AAR 18-23 --> AAS 13 AAR 24 --> AAS 14 AAR 26 --> AAS 15 AAS 16 AAR 29 ---> AAS 17 AAR 34 --> AAS 18 AAR 36 --> AAS 19 AAR 38 --> AAS 20 AAR 40 --> AAS 21 AAR 42 --> AAS 22 & 23 AAR 52 --> AAS 24 & 25 Then it moves to level 2 of AAS

    What cool classes you’ve picked! I’d totally take your class! I wish I had cool options like these when I was in 8th grade. That aviation course looks so fun! I’m definitely looking into that g suite for my kids. You’re right, that’s exactly what the schools are using. I think in homeschool land technology tends to get overlooked and almost rejected as “screen time” 🚫, but it’s so important! At least in my opinion. Great picks mama!
